What condition is commonly found in people living in urban areas?
07.19.10

Researchers at Germany’s University of Duisburg-Essen have found this condition to be more common in people living in urban areas with high levels of particulate air pollution. (Scroll down for the answer.)
A) High blood pressure
B) Obesity
C) Sleep apnea
D) Restless leg syndrome
Answer: A
Using an automated oscillometric device for detection of blood movement through the brachial artery, researchers found that blood pressure was higher in areas of heavy air pollution. Both systolic and diastolic blood pressure were found to be related to particulate pollution levels, even when researchers took other factors into account, such as age, gender, smoking, and weight.
